About Emma

What is the goal of Emma?

The goal of Emma is to increase the therapy adherence through reminders that are sent on the smartphone. Therapy adherence is the degree to which the patient complies with the advice of the medical practitioner. Emma will stimulate the correct intake of medication, will increase your therapy adherence and will greatly contribute to your health.

Why is the product called Emma?

We want Emma to be seen as a friendly coach. Research  indicates that a product with person’s name is seen as more identifiable than a product with a technical name. We also wanted the name to be short and that it would be written and pronounced correctly by a large part of the world. These conditions lead to the name Emma.

What is new in Emma 5.0?

With the release of Emma 5.0 Emma has been split into three versions. A lot of new functionality has also been  added. It is possible to receive reminders for measurements (Emma Free), to start a personal community (Emma Connected Care) and to connect devices such as blood pressure monitors (Emma Professional Care). What are the different versions of Emma?

There are three different versions of Emma available:

Emma Free (free version without the community), Emma Connected Care (community and Pebble smarwatch) and Emma Professional (connection Withings devices). The last version will be provided through health professionals.

Where can I find what’s new in the Emma app after updating?

There are a couple of locations where you can find what has changed after you updated the Emma app.

Dashboard
In order to see what’s new on the online dashboard, you navigate to the menu in the upper right corner of your webbrowser and you select ‘What’s new?’
Here you can find which changes and improvements were added in each update.

Smartphone app
In the app, select the menu. Depending on your device, this is possible through the menu button in the top right or the menu button of the device on the bottom left.
Go to ‘What’s new’. Here you can find which changes and improvements were added in each update.

How do I subscribe to your newsletter?

First of all, thank you for your interest in our newsletter. To receive the newsletter, you navigate to Contact on this website. Fill in your details on the bottom of the page in order to receive our newsletter.

Registration and configuration

I cannot find Emma in the Google Play Store

You can use the term ‘Emma Pill Reminder’ to find Emma in the Google Play Store

I cannot find Emma in the Apple App Store

This is correct. Emma is not yet available for use on Apple devices. This is definitely a step we are considering in the future of our product.

Can I use this system without a smartwatch?

Yes, this is possible. You can download the Emma App in the Google Play Store.

I cannot register an account

It is possible that your username is already in use. Try again with a different username. For example, you can add a number behind your username. It is also possible that your email address is already in use.  Lastly, do not forget to agree to the terms and conditions.

I cannot log in

It is possible that either the password or the email address is incorrect. Check if Caps Lock is disabled and try again. If this does not work, check if you are using the most recent version of the app or check if a new version is available in the Google Play Store. If there is no update available or updating the app ineffective, then you can reset your password on either the mobile app or the browser dashboard. Enter your email address and the system will send you a link to change your password. If you have forgotten your email address, please contact support@medicinemen.eu

How do I change my password?

In order to change your password on the online dashboard, you navigate to the menu in the upper right corner of your webbrowser and you select profile. On the profile page select ‘Edit’. Now you can change your password by selecting ‘Reset’. Save your profile in order to change the password.

Have you forgotten your password? Select ‘Password reset’ on the log-in screen of either the dashboard or the mobile app and enter your email address. You will now receive an email with instructions on how to change your password.

What do the timezone settings on the dashboard mean?

With ‘Timezone dashboard’ you can manually set the timezone you want to view the times on your dashboard in. If you are in a different country and you want to viewed times on your dashboard to be the same as the local time, then switch the Timezone dashboard to the local timezone.
The ‘Timezone schedule’ is meant for people who go on holiday to a country with a different timezone. Do you want to receive reminders on your normal times, but now in the local time of your destination? Change the timezone to the local timezone.

Where can I send questions or remarks about Emma?

Medicine Men appreciates every type of feedback about Emma and we have made it possible to contact us easily. Currently you can reach us in two ways.

Smartphone app
You can send your feedback through the Emma app. In de app you can select the menu. Depending on your device, this is possible through the menu button in the top right or the menu button of the device on the bottom left. Go to ‘Help and feedback’. Next select ‘Feedback’. You have now arrived on the contact form screen. You can send us problems, questions, comments, compliments or suggestions. It’s also possible to ask for an answer on your feedback.

Medicine Men website
You can also send feedback through our website. Go to ‘Contact’. You will find our contact form and you can contact us easily from here.

My question is not available in the FAQ. What should I do?

Privacy

Is my medical information safe with Emma?

Emma’s primary goal is to help the user to take their medicine on the right time and in the right quantity.  In order to do this well, we need information about your medication and your intake schedule to be saved and used by our systems. Our servers are equipped with extensive firewalls and we use the newest versions of our operating systems. We are also registered with the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act and Emma is CE certified.

Who can access my information?

In Emma Connected Care it is possible to allow those around you to access your information. You can allow other people to view your information by sharing a unique code supplied by Emma with them. Through this code they can see your information through an account of their own and depending on their right of access they can edit your intake schedules. You can withdraw your authorizations at any time through the dashboard and the smartphone app.

How much information do I have to fill in on my profile?

Aside from the username and the email address, all information on the profile is completely optional. We use the information to better adjust the system to you.

Why does Emma need my identity, my photos/media/files and information about the phone-ID and calls in the Google Play Store?

Emma used this information to register and personalize your account. The information about the phone is used to monitor your system status and to prevent possible bugs and mistakes.

Why does Emma need my location?

Giving Emma access to your location is completely optional. The information will be used in future functionality to see if your location influences your medication adherence.

How do I add a profile picture?

In order to change your profile picture on the online dashboard, you navigate to the menu in the upper right corner of your webbrowser and you select ‘Profile’. Next up press ‘Edit’ on the right side of your profile picture. Press ‘Edit’ and upload any chosen picture from your computer. As soon as you hit ‘Save’ this picture will be set as your new profile picture.

How do I add an medication alarm?

Dashboard

On the dashboard in your web-browser, you can select ‘Medication’. On this screen you can click on the bell icon, next to ‘Medication’. After entering the necessary information, you can finish adding your medication alarm by pressing the save button.

Smartphone app

In the app you can select ‘Medication’. Click the bell icon in the upper right corner. You can now add your medication alarm. After entering the necessary information, you can finish adding your medication alarm by pressing the save button.

How do I disable a medication alarm?

Dashboard

On the dashboard in your web-browser, you can select ‘Medication’. On this screen you can click on the bell icon, next to ‘Medication’. Under ‘Active’ you can temporarily disable the medication alarm. If you want to delete the medication alarm in its entirety, click on the trash can and it will be deleted.

Smartphone app

In the app you can select ‘Medication’. Next to the medication alarm name you can select ON or OFF.

How do I edit a medication alarm?

How do I see the upcoming alarms from my schedules?

Dashboard

On the dashboard in your web-browser, you can select ‘Agenda’. Here you can find an overview of your upcoming medication intakes and measurements.

In the app you can select ‘Agenda’. Here you can find an overview of your upcoming medication intakes and measurements.

How do I add an extra medication intake?

Dashboard

On the dashboard in your web-browser, you can select ‘Medication’. You can now select ‘Extra intake’. Now you can add an extra medication intake in one of your medication alarms.

In the app you can select ‘Medication’. You can now select ‘Extra intake’. Now you can add an extra medication intake in one of your medication alarms.

How can I receive my medication alarm or measurement alarm at a different time than usual?

Smartphone app

In the app you can select ‘Agenda’. You can now select the medication alarm or measurement alarm you want to edit. It is possible to edit alarms that will take place today or tomorrow. You can select the time of the alarm by clicking the time to the right of the alarm name. Enter a new time and confirm this time. The alarm will now take place at the new time.

How do I take multiple medicines at the same time?

Dashboard

On the dashboard in your web-browser, you can add a medication alarm(see: how do I add a medication alarm?) for both medicines and enter the same time for both of them.

Smartphone app

In the app you can add a medication alarm(see: how do I add a medication alarm?) for both medicines and enter the same time for both of them.

How do I take the same medication at different times in the week?

You can use advanced scheduling for this. For more information about advanced scheduling, you can visit Advanced scheduling

How does advances scheduling work?

With advanced scheduling you can add daily, weekly and monthly schedules. Every change you make during advanced scheduling will be indicated at the bottom of the schedule.

How do I add my own medication? I cannot find my medication in the list of medicines.

You can now manually enter the name of your medicine under Official Name. This will be visible when Emma sends an alarm.

Pebble smartwatch

On which Pebble types can I use Emma?

Emma can be used on the Pebble Classic, the Pebble Steel, the Pebble Time and the Pebble Time Steel. Emma is not available on the Pebble Time Round at the moment.

Emma does not work on my Pebble(anymore)

Check if the Bluetooth connection is activated. Try to close Emma on the Pebble and open it again. If this does not work, check if you have the most recent version of both the Emma smartphone app as the Emma Pebble watchapp.

How can I use Emma on my Pebble smartwatch?

You can find the Emma Pebble watchapp in the Pebble Time app. This app can be downloaded in the Google Play Store. In the Pebble Time app, you can find the Emma Pebble watchapp. It is necessary to download the Emma smartphone app and to be logged in. You can also install the Emma Pebble watchapp through the Emma smartphone app. You can open the smartphone app and go to Pebble. Here you can select Download Emma. It is also necessary to activate your Bluetooth connection on your smartphone.

What’s the advantage of using Emma on the Pebble smartwatch?

The Pebble smartwatch is a device that is connected to the body and therefore it can always reach the user when he or she wears it. Smartphones are often forgotten or put in a bag or purse and the volume of the phone is often lowered or turned off. The Pebble smartwatch is a wearable, which makes it practically impossible to miss the reminders. The smartwatch is very useful to improve therapy adherence.

Do I have to download the Emma smartphone app to use Emma on my Pebble?

It is necessary to download the Emma smartphone app and to be logged in. It is also necessary to activate your Bluetooth connection on your smartphone.

How can I leave the Emma Pebble watchapp?

You can exit the Emma Pebble watchapp by pressing the upper left button(the back button) twice shortly or by keeping upper left button pressed down for a while.

What if I forget my smartphone? Does Emma still function on my Pebble?

If you are not connected to your smartphone Emma can still function on your Pebble, as long as it is activated and on the foreground of the watch. As soon as you lose the connection with your smartphone, the Emma Pebble watchapp will still be able to remind you of 25 planned intakes on its own.

Does my Emma Pebble app have to continually be running on the home screen of my Pebble in order to receive my reminders?

No, this is not necessary. As long as Emma is loaded onto your Pebble, you can use and open any other Pebble app. Emma will still send you your reminders.
